Saints to face Stoke in Capital One Cup

Southampton will travel to the Britannia in the next round of The Capital One Cup.

Michael Regan

After their 2-1 win over Arsenal at the Emirates, Southampton will be on the road again in the last 16 of the Capital One Cup, as they have been drawn against Stoke City. The Potters defeated Sunderland 2-1 in the previous round to book their place in the last 16. The meeting between these two Premier League sides are just one of three all-Premier League-affair in the last 16, with Liverpool being drawn at home against Brendan Rodgers' former club, Swansea. While Manchester City, who hammered Sheffield Wednesday 7-0, will be at home to Newcastle United.

The tie is scheduled to take place on October 28, just three days after Saints play host against Stoke in the Premier League, with kick-off at 19.45 BST. Since Southampton's return to the Premier League, these two sides could not be separated, in the four league games they've played, all four matches ended in a draw. The most recent one was a 2-2 draw in St. Mary's back in February. For this game though, one side must prevail, even if it took 30 penalties to do so.
