As the current Premier League season winds down to a close, teams are keeping one eye on reaching their intended targets this season, whether it's avoiding relegation, securing a place in Europe, or winning trophies.

But teams are also keeping one eye in the future, as they attempt to retool their squad in the summer. Despite the flurry of activities on the transfer deadline day, teams do prepare well in advance prior to entering the summer transfer window.

Southampton are no different, and Ronald Koeman may have identified one of his summer transfer target, in 17-year old Martin Odegaard, according to Mirror (so take this with a grain of salt).

Odegaard, signed for Real Madrid from Norwegian side, Stromsgodset, last January and is currently playing for Real Madrid's B side ('Real Madrid Castilla').

Southampton was rumored to be interested in brining the teenage sensation, who made his national team debut for Norway at 15, but Odegaard opted to sign with the Spanish giant.

Koeman had sent a scout to watch Odegaard in action last Sunday. Odegaard has scored once in six appearances with the B side this season.

It remains to be seen whether Koeman's interest are real and will materialize in a loan approach this summer. While Odegaard is undoubtedly an exciting talent, he might struggle with the pace and physicality of the Premier League. That being said, Southampton's record in nurturing young talent, might make them a feasible option in case Real Madrid would like their starlet to gain a top-flight first team football experience.
