Southampton announced that six players will be released from the club once their contracts expire at the end of June. Those players are Artur Boruc, Jos Hooiveld, Cody Cropper, Omar Rowe, Jake Sinclair and Chris Johns.

After having a successful season on lown at newly-promoted side Bournemouth, the fellow South Coast club have snapped up Polish shot-stopper Boruc's services in an instant.

Hooiveld endured a tough time on loan during his time at South London outfit Millwall as they suffered relegation from the Championship - despite him impressing the Bermondsey faithful at The Den.

The latter four players' release come as a bit of a surprise given the hype surrounding some of those names in the past after successful spells in the Saints youth set-up.

With Southampton missing goalkeeper Fraser Forster for a significant amount of time next season, it was thought American 'keeper Cropper would have been a good back-up options for the Saints.

Meanwhile, Omar Rowe and Jake Sinclair both gained positive reputations around the club with some impressive displays at youth level for Southampton.

It was perhaps rather telling they never got a proper look-in with the first team, despite Saints' record of being more than willing to give our talented youngsters a chance at fighting it out in the Premier League.

We at St. Mary's Musings wish all the above players all the best with their future careers.
