With Arsenal and Manchester United rumoured to be interested in the player, the ever-increasing departure of Southampton midfielder Schneiderlin has forced Ronald Koeman's hand to find a suitable replacement for the French international.

Gueye had an impressive season as he played a starring role in Lille's midfield in 2014-15, helping them achieve a mid-table finish in Ligue 1 in an up-and-down year for the French club.

The Sengalese international, however, opted to stay in France and move south to join Marcelo Bielsa's Marseille as they attempt to break PSG's monopoly over the French championship.

Southampton have been linked to various Europe-based central midfielders over the last few weeks, including Marco Benassi. With this news, Saints boss Koeman will have to cast his net wider.
