Prediction League: Game two

Jake and his pessimism takes the lead in our prediction league. Closely followed by our competition's new bad guy.

Last season Southampton did not like drawing. For 75 minutes the Newcastle game looked like being a loss, then for 15 minutes we were unlucky not to register an away win. It was a mental but enjoyable start to the season.

"I wasn't impressed because I was unhappy about the first half" Okay so Koeman didn't enjoy the game from his bed in Holland but with his return hopefully we will see a bit more defensively solidity.

Saints are favourites once again with bookies offering 19/20 on a home win. A draw is available at 23/10 with an Everton victory 3/1. The toffees haven't enjoyed their recent trips to the south coast and are winless in their last 6 games at St Marys(0-3-3).

Graziano with 3 goals in 3 competitive games this season is the favourite for first goalscorer at 9/2. Lukaku is 7/1 favourite to open the scoring for Everton. Remember that season we made Lukaku look like an absolute football god? Seems awhile ago now, he has registered just four goals in his last 23 Premier League appearances.

Here is the league table so far:

So lets have a look at this week's predictions. We have added in Sky Sports' very own prediction machine Paul Merson. Being a skate bastard, he will play the role of the heel in our league:

Lawro: 2-0

"Southampton made a good start to the season with their draw at Newcastle last week and could even have won that game with the chances they had at the end. I am going for Saints to win this time and continue Everton's difficult start to the season."

Merse: 3-1

"I like the way Southampton play. They've got a good team and did great last year. I think they'll continue this year in the top eight, and you can't moan with that."

Flattery will get you nowhere Paul, we still hate you. Now onto the Musings' Masthead:

Will: 3-2

"It was a distinctly un-Southampton like performance last week, more of the same and we'll concede a couple again. Everton can be leaky as well, so goals galore but ultimately a win."

Jake: 2-1

"It's a tough one! I think we'll scrape a 2-1 win. Both defences looked poor last week so there could well be a lot more goals. But, I think Saints go 2-0 up before holding on to that lead for dear life once Everton net with ten minutes left."

George: 2-1

"2-1, with an Everton own goal. Again!"

Conor: 2-0

"It's a bit of a hard game to call. I fancy Saints to win after a week on the training ground and on home soil, but Everton are pretty hard to work out right now. Things seem to have gone stagnant for them, but they've got very capable players and a point to prove. However, Saints are due a clean sheet and I think Ronald Koeman's men will have this one."

Dan: 2-0

"Mane double sees Saints beat Everton as home team outclass the visitors and show their top 6 credentials."

Rules are one point for a correct result, three for a correct score.
