Bertrand had knee surgery in June and made his return to football playing 45 minutes for Southampton's Under-21s against Reading Under-21s in a 2-5 victory to the Saints.

This is welcome news as Southampton have missed Bertrand's presence at the back with relative newcomer Matt Targett struggling to fill the void convincingly.

Bertrand, who signed from Chelsea permanently for Saints in January following a successful loan spell at St. Mary's, starred in a Southampton defence which was joint best in the 2014-15 Premier League season. The same season saw the full-back earn a place in the official Premier League team of the year.

With no pre-season under his belt, it would seem Bertrand will be eased back into first team reckoning so it will be a surprise if he features against MK Dons longer than 45 minutes.
