Italian striker Pelle netted the winner for the Azzurri as they defeated Malta in their Euro 2016 qualification group. The Italians struggled to break down a resolute Malta side until the deadlock was broken on 69 minutes.
Antonio Candreva sent in a low cross for Pelle to divert the ball home to make it 1-0 - the final score. This was Pelle's third goal in five appearances for his country and this victory helped gain Italy top spot in Group H.
Yoshida also scored for Japan as he helped the Samurai Blue get off to a winning start to their 2018 World Cup/2019 Asian Cup qualifying campaign against minnows Cambodia.
Japan ran out comfortable 3-0 winners over Cambodia. Keisuke Honda netted the opener before Yoshida's low, arrowed drive made it 2-0. Shinji Kagawa completed the scoring. This was Maya's fifth goal for his country - not bad for a centre half.
FInally, Ward-Prowse, Matt Targett and Jack Stephens featured in England U21s 1-0 victory over the USA U23s. Ward-Prowse captained the Young Lions on this occasion. The winner was scored by Manchester United's James Wilson.
Former Saint Calum Chambers also featured for England, while ex-Southampton academy products Cody Cropper and Gboly Ariyibi also appeared for the USA.
