Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama took to his Instagram account to apologise to Saints fans following on from his reckless red card against Norwich City on Saturday.
The captain of the Kenyan national team has been continually linked with a move away from the club and some Southampton fans thought this display of ill-discipline was another attempt to force a transfer in the presently-open January transfer window.
Hopefully this post will put those rumours to bed.
I Would just like to apologise to the manager, fans and everyone at the club for my red card yesterday. It was reckless and irresponsible and I should have used my experience to have not let it happen, especially when I was on a yellow card. I now just want to focus on getting back on the pitch and helping the team as much as I can.
