Fresh from Southampton's exploits on the continent, Claude Puel and his men take on Pep Guardiola's Manchester City for the first time since the renowned Catalan has assumed the City mantle as manager.

Puel's Saints are likely to be missing previous absentees Matt Targett, Ryan Bertrand and Cedric Soares on today's game, while Shane Long--who picked up a hamstring injury in Thursday evening's loss to Inter Milan--is also expected to not feature on today's game.

Meanwhile, Guardiola has injuries of his own to contend with. The right-back pairing of Bacart Sagna and Pablo Zabaleta are sidelined with injury, while the return of Vincent Kompany appears doubtful.

Saints' £16m record signing Sofiane Boufal could well make his Premier League debut today after coming on late against Inter midweek. However, it's unlikely he'll start considering his lack of match fitness.

Stats Zone:

Southampton have lost in their last six appearances at the Etihad in all competitions.

The last time Saints beat City away was in April, 2004--goals from James Beattie and Kevin Phillips giving Southampton a 3-1 win.

City are unbeaten in 11 home games in all competitions.

Though, Guardiola's men are winless in their last four matches in all comps.

In total, Southampton have accrued two more points in 2016 than City--51 points to the latter's 49.

Southampton have conceded four penalties in eight league games this season. However, City have only managed to score four of their eight penalties in all competitions this season.

Charlie Austin has netted seven goals from his last seven Southampton appearances in all competitions.

Guardiola and Puel have met before--with Guardiola guiding his Barcelona side to a 6-3 aggregate win over Puel's Lyon in the Champions League back in 2009.
