Southampton pushed Premier League title contenders Manchester City to a 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium.

Nathan Redmond fired Southampton ahead in the first-half before substitute Kelechi Iheanacho levelled proceedings.

Fraser Forster made two saves in four minutes to preserve a point for Southampton, who has earned points in six-straight league fixtures (4W, 2D).

Manchester City returned to the top of the table, but is level on 20 points with Arsenal and Liverpool.

After a sluggish start, play came to life on 20 minutes as the two sides traded counter-attacks that failed to materialise.

But Redmond was gifted the position on goal when he picked off John Stones’ misplaced pass before dinking the ball around Claudio Bravo and finishing into an empty net on 27 minutes.

Stones turned in Kevin De Bruyne’s 32nd-minute free-kick at the back post and reeled away feeling he had atoned for his mistake, but the goal was called back as Sergio Aguero was ruled offside in the build up.

Manchester City came out of halftime pressing for a leveller and came close when Raheem Sterling narrowly misses Leroy Sane at the far post in the 53rd minute.

Kelechi Iheanacho, who replaced De Bruyne at halftime, equalised two minutes later after Sane teed up the forward.

Forster palmed away a dipping effort from Ilkay Gundogan before stopping Silva in similar fashion in a four-minute stretch.

In-form Charlie Austin was without a goal as he was unable to restore Southampton’s lead when his powerful shot found the grasp of Bravo a quarter-hour from full-time.

Sergio Aguero had a chance for a late goal when he charged into the box on a long meandering run, but his effort went dangerously across the target.
