It hasn't been the best of weeks for the Saints. Southampton were unlucky to lose against Chelsea last Saturday but were thoroughly beaten by local rivals AFC Bournemouth on Tuesday.
This week sees Sam Allardyce and his Sunderland side return to St. Mary's. Last time around, under the tutelage of Gustavo Poyet, Sunderland were handed an 8-0 thrashing from Southampton. Allardyce's teams are typically hard to beat so there's little to no chance of such a repeat today.
Southampton boss Ronald Koeman will rue Tuesday's 2-0 loss away at Bournemouth further with two strikers in Charlie Austin and the in-form Shane Long being ruled out of contention through a hamstring injury and a minor knee injury respectively.
Meanwhile, Sunderland will be missing Lee Cattermole and Jeremain Lens as they are out with respective head and hernia injuries, though they could welcome back Irish stalwart John O'Shea back into the fold.
Sunderland have a lot on their plates right now with the combined drain of a relegation battle and the fallout of Adam Johnson's extra-curricular activities.
