A patellar tendon injury has sidelined Shane Long for Sunday's match against league leaders, Leicester City. Ronald Koeman said Shane picked up the injury in international play.
This is a tough blow as Shane Long has been one of the best players on the pitch and one of the biggest trouble makers for opposing defenses. Ronald Koeman said in his press conference today that the rest of the 25-man squad trained today, which is good news.
Graziano Pelle and Sadio Mane seemingly beginning to find their form is huge in the absence of Long. The return of Charlie Austin and Jay Rodriguez could also be a massive boost in the Saints race for European qualification.
Shane Long will be a huge loss against Leicester, but with other options available, this shouldn't hurt the chances of a Southampton victory by too much.
