Southampton come into this week's group of games only four back of a Champions League spot. The opponent this week however, is high flying Leicester City, who sit atop the league standings. Captain Jose Fonte has spoken to Southampton's media team about tomorrow's match with the Foxes, and the possibility of Saints heading back to the Europa League.
"To achieve European competitions, we will need to win four or five more games," says Fonte, who goes on to say that the team is very determined and the mood around the squad is good. A win against the league leaders tomorrow would do a wonder for those European chances.
Four or five games will be a difficult ask, with a mix of should-win and tough games with matches against the top two teams in Tottenham and Leicester, as well as a match with an always tough Manchester City side. Southampton also play bottom feeders Newcastle, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace.
The three matches with the bottom teams should be considered must-wins, while a match-up with Everton can be deemed a should-win. Stealing any points from City, Spurs and Leicester will be a bonus.
Jose Fonte went on to say that he doesn't worry about the situation with Leicester, and that he is only focused on Southampton's results. "We are not focused on ruining anybody's party. We are focused on ourselves and achieving what we want to achieve."
One thing can be said, the confidence of this side is growing and a win against Leicester should show the league that Southampton aren't messing around.
