Press Conference Roundup

In the build-up to Saturday's match with bottom-dweller Aston Villa, Ronald Koeman spoke to the press today.

Ronald Koeman had his pre-Aston Villa presser today, and it was about as plain as it gets.

Here are the notes:

  • RK said the current form, though only one loss in six games, is not enough.
  • RK said that the draw with Everton was very costly to Saints European chances.
  • RK says it will still be a difficult game this week, because of the relaxed nature of already relegated Aston Villa.
  • RK is pleased with Graziano Pelle's current form, says he has been consistent.
  • Jose Fonte is good to go for the weekend.
  • Charlie Austin is the only Saint out this weekend.
See? Not a whole lot to discuss there.

One big plus for Southampton is that captain Jose Fonte is fit and will be okay to play this week, after leaving the game against Everton with a head injury.

I do believe that Ronald Koeman was being a bit nice saying that Villa will be a tough game. They haven't been a tough side to play all season for most teams, so I don't see this one being an issue. Anything other than three points against Villa will likely take Southampton out of Europa League qualification.
