Southampton today announced they have linked up with Twitter to offer a new service which provides Saints fans real-time goal alerts direct to their mobile phone and/or tablet.

According to the official site, Saints are the first club in England to offer this service alongside social media giant Twitter, which will provide key updates to fans who couldn't make it to either St. Mary's or the away ground Ronald Koeman and his men are visiting.

The service works via Twitter's Direct Message function so goal updates and half time/full time scorelines will be delivered straight to your mobile device's lock screen.

Obviously, you will have to be signed up to Twitter to enjoy this perk. As per the OS's article, click here to send a direct message to the club to get these updates ahead of Saturday's home match against the floundering Newcastle United.
