Two Home Friendlies on The Cards

After two successful preseason trips to the USA and Holland, Southampton closes out preparations for the season with two home fixtures.

After playing American and Dutch sides, Southampton will now welcome two Spanish sides, RCD Espanyol and Athletic Bilbao, to St. Mary's to complete their preseason.

Saints will play Espanyol on the 3rd of August, and Athletic Club on the 7th of August. These will be two tough fixtures, and hopefully fans will see a preview of  what the team will look like for the opener. We've had small glimpses so far, but without appearances from Jose Fonte and Cedric, we do not know how Claude Puel's men will line up for the first match.

There are still positions needed to be filled in the squad however. The most notable would be a backup keeper, after the recent loaning of Paulo Gazzaniga. Many fans are also calling for another forward to be added to the squad, as well as a center-back.

Time will only tell though if Puel sees a need for any additions, as he's finally had enough time to see all that the youth has to offer. If the youth are good enough in Puel's eyes, we may only see a backup GK come into the mix.

What's for sure is that the current squad has loads of talent, but as Charlie Austin said yesterday, Saints have still got to put the finishing touches on the team in their final two friendlies.
