Despite the fact that Manchester United seem extremely interested in Jose Fonte, a move for the 32-year old may not materialize after all. According to the Telegraph, Raphael Varane is currently Jose Mourinho's first choice.
That being said, the Telegraph are also saying that Manchester United would allow Mourinho to sign Jose Fonte without selling any of the side's current players. Given that Fonte's price currently stands at £8million, Fonte is likely the more logical signing at this time.
BBC pundit Garth Crooks had stated in his online team of the week that new Saints signing Nathan Redmond reminds him a lot of Jermain Defoe.
Talking about Redmond's movement away from the ball, Crooks said that "[Redmond's] movement away from the ball was sensational" while also saying that should he "cope with the physical demands, then Southampton may have unearthed a gem."
New signing Pierre-Emile Højbjerg has impressed many with his stellar debut against Watford. The praise has continued on twitter with some even calling him the Premier League's best signing.
@itvfootball Hojbjerg is the signing of the summer. Literally in awe at his performance yesterday. #saintsfc

Maya Yoshida has issued a warning to his "sleeping" teammates to wake up before the Saints trip to Old Trafford this Friday night.
Speaking about the side's 1-1 draw against Watford on Saturday, Yoshida said "In the first half today, we were sleeping – we were too shy. In the second half, it was better but we were too late. We need to be more dynamic. We need to recover physically and mentally."
A new transfer story surrounding Southampton has been making the rounds with Everton and former Saints' boss Ronald Koeman now interested in signing Charlie Austin.
The Evening Standard are reporting that with Everton likely to sell Romelu Lukaku this summer, Charlie Austin is being lined up as his replacement. The move is not surprising given that Koeman signed Austin while he was with the Saints last winter.
