Southampton: Weekend round-up

Southampton suffered a 2-1 defeat at Arsenal on Saturday - here are the latest headlines.

Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk was left confused by the penalty, which led to Arsenal’s late winner on Saturday, but said they had themselves to blame for the defeat. (Daily Echo)

The defender was shown yellow by referee Bobby Madley prior to the penalty being for kicking up the turf around the spot to which he said, “It’s a penalty in the last minute so you try to do anything to prevent the goal and that’s what I did but it didn’t work.” (Daily Star)

Former Premier League referee Howard Webb told BT Sport that Arsenal were lucky to have been awarded a penalty against Southampton. (Evening Standard)

Southampton boss Claude Puel, meanwhile, was angry following the decision, as his team has now conceded three penalties in just four league matches. (ESPN FC)
