Southampton boss Claude Puel will be hoping his Saints side maintain the momentum gained following a fantastic 1-0 League Cup victory over Liverpool in midweek.

It was a much-needed victory for the Saints, who were without a win in four matches - three league losses and a draw in the FA Cup against Norwich City.

Southampton's Northern Irish talisman Steven Davis is uncertain to play after coming off with a knock against Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Saints captain Jose Fonte isn't expected to feature in Saturday's game following his purported transfer request.

Burnley's Scott Arfield and Johann Berg Gudmundsson are unlikely to play because of hamstring injuries suffered in the FA Cup last weekend.

But George Boyd and Jon Flanagan are set to return after minor problems, with Ashley Barnes also fit again.

Stats Zone:

Southampton are looking for a third consecutive win over Burnley.

But the Clarets won 1-0 on Southampton's only previous Premier League visit to Turf Moor in December 2014.

When Southampton won 3-1 in the reverse fixture earlier this season, they had 34 shots, which was their highest total in a Premier League game since 2003-04.

Southampton have lost three successive Premier League games. They last lost four in a row in November and December 2014.

Burnley are vying for a club record-equalling fourth consecutive Premier League home win.

Southampton have scored more than once in a game just three times - fewer occasions than any other team.

The Clarets have won five of their last six league games at Turf Moor, where they have earned 22 of their 23 points this season.

Saints have dropped 14 points from winning positions this season, more than any other top-flight side.

Burnley are the only team not to have earned a point from a losing position in the Premier League this season.
