Last season a strange phenomenon hit the premier league. Home advantage, the strange and illogical force that is universal in all sport, disappeared.
It was a change that was best exemplified in the champions. Leicester were a counter attack beast and it's a system that is suited to playing away. When teams perform in front of their home fans they are forced to take the game to an opponent.
This year there has been the inevitable backlash. Home advantage is back in a big way and nowhere is that more obvious than Southampton's opponents today's.
In the reverse fixture at St Mary's Burnley were useless. Devoid of talent, speed, technique it was obvious to all in attendance why they have only mustered a single away point in nine games. Less obvious then is how they have registered seven wins and a draw in eleven home games.
Extrapolate that home form over their nine away games (at 2 points a game it's a feat even Paul Merson could manage) and Dyche's men sit 6th on 40 points.
Arsenal, Man City, Swansea and Hull are the only teams to get a result at Turf Moor this season. Can Southampton add their names to this list?
Predictions
Lawro: 1-1
Southampton played very well in their win over Liverpool in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final on Wednesday, but they don't frighten teams away from home.
Merson: 2-0
I was impressed with Southampton in the EFL Cup against Liverpool, but Burnley at home are a different team.
Paul Johnson: 1-0
I just think we're gonna drop the ball.
Daniel Vaughan: 0-1
We've got a little belief back and our defence is still good.
Allen Gunn: 0-0
I'll say 0-0. Perfectly set up for it.
Jake Hughes: 1-1
Burnley are pretty impressive at home. I'll go for a cautious 1-1 draw.
George Galpin: 1-1
Blaise Bourgeois: 2-0
Injuries, fixture congestion and a couple bounces their way spells defeat for the Saints
David Williams: 1-2
The cup game felt like a turning point in our season. Although it is tempting to predict a loss here as it would be very in keeping with the rest of our season.
