Claude Puel's Saints look to bounce back from a disappointing midweek defeat away at Swansea City as they welcome Slaven Bilic's West Ham side.

Southampton were rocked by the news talismanic defender Virgil van Dijk has been ruled out of action for up to three months due to an ankle injury picked up following a challenge from Leicester City's Jamie Vardy.

However, Puel may well welcome Jay Rodriguez and James Ward-Prowse back into the side after they recovered from injuries picked up in Saints' League Cup win away at Liverpool last week.

Southampton's £14m signing of Manolo Gabbiadini is also in contention to play.

West Ham are missing Ghanian international Andre Ayew as he flies home from Africa Cup of Nations duty, but Cheikhou Kouyate could feature as Senegal crashed out of the tournament early.

Sam Byram is also doubt after injuring his hamstring against Manchester City.

Stats Zone (via BBC Sport):

They have won just one of their last six league matches.

Only four teams have conceded fewer goals at home than the 11 Southampton have let in so far this season.

Fraser Forster hasn't conceded a league goal against West Ham in 333 minutes of action, keeping three consecutive clean sheets in that time.

The Hammers have conceded 40 Premier League goals this season from their 23 games - it took them 32 games to concede as many in 2015-16.

West Ham have kept just one clean sheet away from home in the league this season.

They have conceded a league-high 82.5% of their goals from open play this season.
