We at St. Mary's Musings has decided to take on the painstaking process of compiling all of the exciting-turn-disappointing transfer rumours of those coming to Southampton and the inevitably depressing talk of who wants to leave the South Coast this summer.
We have even tried to remain rational in writing about these rumours—that's all they are, after all—giving each rumour a score which was produced following plenty of scrutiny.
Try not to roll your eyes at the rumours and enjoy!
April 22nd - Sam Gallagher linked with Sunderland, Aston Villa, and others
Rumour score: 7/10 - Personally, I wouldn't want to see the back of Sam Gallagher any time soon. But, I could see him being a young, interesting striking option for Championship clubs like Sunderland (soon to be) and Aston Villa given how well he's played for a poor Blackburn Rovers side.
April 22nd - Southampton linked with Nice's Jean-Michaël Seri
Rumour score: 7/10 - It's certainly viable, but the supposed asking price could be a deterrent and I can't help but think it's a lazy link to Southampton boss Claude Puel, formerly of Nice. However, it is a rumour stemming from a reputable French news source.
April 20th - Southampton interested in Swansea City's Gylfi Sigurdsoon and Leeds United's Pontus Jansson
Rumour score: 5/10 - I would love to give this a bigger score, but I can't see it happening. Pontus Jansson has not even made his permanent move to Leeds United yet proper, while Swansea City's Gylfi Sigurdsson will surely court a transfer fee out of Saints' reach.
April 11th - Cuco Martina linked to Ronald Koeman's Everton on free transfer
Rumour score: 8/10 - For whatever reason, Ronald Koeman seems to love Mr. Cuco Martina. Free transfer and a cheap back-up option for the injured Seamus Coleman. Oh and the sooner Saints get rid, the better.
March 29th - Chelsea reportedly favourites to sign Virgil van Dijk
Rumour score: 7/10 - Injured or not, it's almost certainly a dead-cert Virgil van Dijk will be leaving Southampton this summer. Whether it's Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United or Liverpool, I wouldn't guffaw (I've always wanted to use that word) at the rumour.
