Prediction League: Arsenal (h)

Last time the two teams met at St Mary's it finished 5-0 to Arsenal. The time before that, 4-0 to Saints. So today's result is anyone's guess.

Some might suggest that Sunday's drab nil nil draw at Anfield was an inspiring backs to the wall performance against a side that likes to think it is miles ahead of our football club in every way.

Not me though. Jurgen Klopp is nursing an injury ravaged squad and the eleven men he fielded were probably comparable in quality to what Puel had on the field. Coutinho and Firmino would walk into the Southampton side but everyone else would have a battle to dislodge their saints counterpart.

And despite this our boys never mustered a shot on target. Things must improve tonight.

As for our opponents, they can quite rightly feel inspired by the result at Anfield on Sunday. That and their yawn-fest 2-0 win over United gives them another undeserved chance to compete for the top four.

So what can we expect tonight? Another nil nil?

Perhaps. Only Middlesbrough and Man United are involved in games with less goals than our saints. 19% of our home games have finished nil nil, the saints home support watch the highest proportion of goalless draws in the league.

On the plus side, Arsenal haven't kept a clean sheet in six away games, so we might see a saint find the back of the net.

Both teams to score might be a decent bet, Arsenal have scored in 82% of their away games. Wellbeck and Giroud will lick their lips watching Stephens and Yoshida's various comedy attempts at winning aerial duels.

Predictions

Allen: 0-2

No idea who will be starting for us with the quick turn around, but I don't see them scoring either heh, so Arsenal comfortably.

Dan V: 1-1

Why not? Have to get a result vs a big team at some point.

Jake: 1-2

Arsenal to steal a jammy win to end our good home run against them. 1-2.

Will: 2-1

I'll say 2-1 Saints. Still not convinced by Arsenal.

("But you're convinced by Saints?!" replied Jake)

A good point, that I can't really refute.

George: 1-1

Got a feeling we might get something out of Arsenal.

*Lawro and Merse don't seem to be interested in predicting this match. The gutless chickens.
