Southampton striker Shane Long will miss his club's last game of the season against Stoke City on Sunday, as well as likely missing out on Republic of Ireland's World Cup qualifier against Austria next month.
Long, 30, broke his metatarsal in Saints' 2-1 victory away at Middlesbrough—in which he missed a penalty.
Saints manager Claude Puel confirmed the injury in his pre-match press conference, saying: "Shane is unlucky with his broken metatarsal. We will see him again next season."
Ireland's game against Austria is a key contest should they have any chance of automatically qualifying for the World Cup finals in Russia next year and Long is a key component in the country's attack.
Martin O'Neill's side are presently level on points with Group D leaders Serbia. Long is also likely to miss friendlies against Mexico and Uruguay in June.
