Southampton are reportedly in talks to sign Atletico Madrid striker Luciano Vietto according to Sky Sports.
The 23-year-old Argentinian, who has been capped at U20 level for his country, has been plying his trade in Spain for the last three years—starting at Villarreal before moving to Atletico to once again play for Diego Simeone, who managed Vietto at Racing Club in Argentina.
Despite a promising first season at Villarreal, scoring 12 goals in 32 games, Vietto has struggled in his limited appearances for Atletico—netting one goal in 19 La Liga games in sporadic appearances as a starter.
Last season Vietto plied his trade at Sevilla, scoring six goals in 21 appearances.
Saints are currently on the lookout for a striker to replace Jay Rodriguez, who left Southampton for Premier League rivals West Bromwich Albion earlier this month.
