For the first time since taking over as Southampton’s manger, Mauricio Pellegrino will be in charge at St Mary’s this evening.
It is the first of two home friendlies for the Saints, who host FC Augsburg and Sevilla in the span of five days. Kick off against Augsburg is 7:45 p.m on Wednesday.
“It will be in front of our fans for the first time, and I would like to show the magic that we will give to them,” Pellegrino told the Official Southampton FC Website.
Southampton has played their first three friendlies away from St Mary’s with the latest a 3-0 win over AS Saint Etienne on Sunday.
“The fans are a massive part of the club. Our players and the staff that work around the team, we are giving our best to try to send a good message to them,” the Argentine added.
Southampton struggled at home during Claude Puel’s one-year reign and Wednesday is a good time as ever to start on the front foot and set the tone for upcoming season, which begins at St Mary’s on 12th August.
Pellegrino finished, “These two games will be a good chance for us to complete our final preparation and ensure we are ready for the start of the season.”
