Jack Stephens and Manolo Gabbiadini each scored for Southampton to conclude pre-season with a 2-0 win over Spanish side Sevilla FC at St Mary’s Stadium.

Nathan Redmond missed out on giving Southampton an early lead whilst Gabbiadini also failed to get off the mark after a fast start by the hosts.

Stephens, who has rounded into form this pre-season as he makes a claim to start for Mauricio Pellegrino, found the back of the net when he bundled home James Ward-Prowse’s corner on 26 minutes.

The finish was eerily similar to those chances he missed in the box last season.

The defender then looked to have added to his tally after the break when he converted off a broken free kick only to be flagged — albeit, correctly — offside.

But Gabbiadini, however, would make it 2-0 with a late strike finishing first-time from a brilliantly timed flick-on from Steven Davis.

Southampton starts their Premier League campaign at home against Swansea on 12th August.
