Stuart Armstrong’s breakout game was spoilt by Fulham, as Southampton was defeated 3-2 at Craven Cottage.
Armstrong, who was coming off a strong performance with Scotland over the international break, struck either side of the break, including a sensational second goal.
But Aleksandar Mitrovic scored either side of Andre Schurrle’s late first-half goal to give new boss Claudio Ranieri a warm welcome to the job.
