Southampton dropped down a position and into the relegation zone as Huddersfield Town beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0 away from home.
This further compounds Saints’ awful weekend of football, having been beat 3-2 by fellow relegation strugglers Fulham on Saturday.
Pressure is mounting on Southampton manager Mark Hughes, made worse by the fact Fulham already sacked promotion-winning coach Slavisa Jokanovic.
Jokanovic was fired in favour of Claudio Ranieri, who helped guide his side to their second win of the season.
Hughes’ side is struggling, having only mustered eight points in 13 games and a single win in that time.
Under Hughes, Southampton have only won three of 21 games in total.
