Mauricio Pellegrino sacked: How does he compare to other Southampton managers in the Premier League?

The Argentine manager was a car crash in slow motion at Saints, but was he Southampton’s worst ever Premier League manager?

It’s finally happened. With Saints sleepwalking its way to relegation, manager Mauricio Pellegrino has been relieved of his duties at Southampton and the Argentine - as well as Saints fans - were belatedly put out of their miseries.

Watching Pellegrino slowly undo all of the great work Southampton had done to once again become an established Premier League club was painful to watch.

Dull, languid football and a squad of players who don’t look anywhere near the standard Southampton fans have become accustomed to over recent years (we’ve been spoiled). Both Pellegrino and the board themselves - including those who put in said great work such as Les Reed - are fully to blame for this sh*t show of a season.

But was Pellegrino Southampton’s worst ever manager to oversee the team in the Premier League?

It’s obviously not definitive with multiple factors in play (transfer budgets, time, existing squads, etc.), but on the basis of points per game, here’s how he fares against his competition:
