Southampton continued their positive start to pre-season with a come-from-behind win over Jiangsu Suning.
Saints striker Manolo Gabbiadini opened the scoring with a nice header from a precise Stuart Armstrong cross. Armstrong is already looking a decent buy for the transfer fee paid to Celtic this summer.
However, Jiansu Suning’s Zhang Lingfeng equalised shortly after with a neat finish, before Richmond Boakye put the Chinese Super League side up 2-1 just six minutes later in a muggy Xuzhou Olympic Sports Centre Stadium.
Saints’ Nathan Redmond crashed in his team’s equaliser from distance shortly before half time after the ball had squirmed out of the opposition’s penalty area from a corner.
With 13 minutes remaining on the clock, Sam Gallagher grabbed Southampton’s winner following a well-worked one-two pass with Steven Davis, before steering the ball home.
Another valuable run-out for Hughes’ men on their tour of China. Watch the goals above.
