Former Southampton captain Jose Fonte is now without a club after his contract with Chinese Super League side Dalian Yifang was terminated early.

34-year-old Fonte only joined the club in late February, making just seven appearances - including his infamous debut which saw his side hammered 8-0 against Shanghai SIPG.

Fonte didn’t win a single game in his seven appearances for Dalian Yifang, picking up just two points. The club currently sit in the Chinese Super League’s relegation zone.

Fonte is now being linked with a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers, who are backed by Portuguese super agent Jorge Mendes and is Fonte’s representative.

Wanting to “win more trophies” following his success with Portugal in Euro 2016, Fonte left Southampton for West Ham United in January 2017.

However, Fonte’s fitness and form fell off a cliff while at the Hammers, making only 24 league appearances for the club before moving to China to get more first-team football to represent his country at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia this summer.

He appeared for Portugal in all four games before they crashed out to Uruguay in the first knockout round.
