Borussia Mönchengladbach defender Jannik Vestergaard has been given a price tag of €20m by the German club as Southampton make the Danish international a transfer priority this summer as per Express [H/T Read Southampton].

Following Virgil van Dijk’s departure from Saints to Liverpool last January, it’s thought Southampton have made the signing of a central defender a priority in this summer transfer window.

Saints are currently lacking strength in depth at the back, with Wesley Hoedt, Maya Yoshida, Jack Stephens and Jan Bednarek as central options in defence.

Vestergaard is a hulking centre-back, standing at 6ft 7in, has 16 caps and a goal for Denmark and has 14 goals in 185 Bundesliga appearances for Hoffenheim, Werder Bremen and current club Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Saints boss Mark Hughes has already made two signings this summer, bringing in forward Mohamed Elyounoussi from Basel and midfielder Stuart Armstrong from Celtic.
