Southampton drew the first exhibition match of their pre-season preparations 3-3 against German side Schalke 04 in China.
Old names sent on loan last season, including the likes of Matt Targett, Jordy Clasie and Harrison Reed, featured. Meanwhile, new Saints winger Stuart Armstrong - a £7m buy from Celtic - started the match.
Yevhen Konoplyanka helped Schalke draw first blood in the match with Saints, but Nathan Redmond equalised on the stroke of half time following some neat play with Charlie Austin.
Saints manager Mark Hughes replaced all 11 starters at half time, and the makeshift side featured in the second stanza impressed.
Reed scored with a tidy finish following a precise cross-field pass from Clasie, before Schalke’s Suat Serdar grabbed an equaliser.
Another Saints youth product in Jake Hesketh then helped Saints take the lead once again with a deflected finish, but Steven Skrzybski scored a netbuster with less than 10 minutes remaining to make it 3-3. Fraser Forster didn’t have a chance.
