Southampton handily beaten 3-0 by Borussia Monchengladbach in final pre-season match

How worried should you get from pre-season friendlies again?

Southampton’s final pre-season friendly was disappointing, with Saints being easily beat by German club Borussia Monchengladbach 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Monchengladbach substitutes Patrick Hermann and Denis Zakaria got the visitors’ goals, with the former notching two.

New Saints signing Jannik Vestergaard was of course bought from Monchengladbach, but the towering Dane could do little to stop his former club from being victorious at St. Mary’s.

Southampton seldom offered any attacking threat to their German counterparts, while Mark Hughes’ men also looked shaky in defence.

Pre-season’s main focus is to get Saints’ players up to speed ahead of the 2018/19 Premier League campaign starting next week against Burnley.

However, the team’s poor performance against solid opposition could highlight that this Saints squad still has some issues which have not been properly addressed in the summer transfer window.
