In his pre-match press conference, Southampton manager Mark Hughes confirmed that striker Shane Long will miss Saints’ trip to Wolves on Saturday.

Republic of Ireland international Long is out with a toe injury and has not trained with the squad all week, per the OS.

Hughes said forward Danny Ings is likely to slot back into the first team, after he missed last week’s defeat to Liverpool as he was ineligible to play against the club he’s on loan from.

Two more attacking options in Manolo Gabbiadini and Mohamed Elyounoussi are also set to be available for the Wolves game.

The pair missed out on last week’s Liverpool visit and have since recovered from their respective injuries.

“We’ve only got a doubt on Shane Long who has got a problem with his toe again,” Hughes said.

“Shane hasn’t trained today or at all with the group this week. It’s not settling down as well as we would like so it needs a bit of further investigation. As it stands now he unfortunately will miss out.

”Moi and Gabbi weren’t available for Liverpool but thankfully they trained today. As long as they don’t get a reaction overnight, they should be an option for us.

”It’s a strong squad; the only negative from that situation is that you have to disappoint a lot of guys who have trained very well during the week.”
