Davis heads back to Rangers on loan

Thank you for a great Saints career.

Southampton’s Steven Davis set for Rangers transfer in January window

Southampton today confirmed that Steven Davis has returned to Rangers on loan, ending a six-and-a-half year stay at St Mary’s.

Davis made 226 appearances in all competitions after joining Saints in 2012 ahead of the club’s return to the Premier League and would play his part in four top-eight finishes.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for making my time at the club so special,” Davis said in an official statement through Southampton’s website. “There have been many ups and downs, but since the day I arrived I have given my all to play my part in pushing this club forward.”

The 34-year-old’s Southampton highlights include helping the club reach their goal of playing in Europe, which they did on two occasions, and captaining the team at Wembley for the EFL Cup final in 2017.

“Southampton Football Club has taught me a lot that I will take into the rest of my career and life,” he said. “I look forward to the new challenges ahead and wish everyone associated with the club success in the future.”
