Southampton are unlikely to be able to call upon the in-form Sofiane Boufal for tonight’s Norwich City Premier League game.

Boufal is reported to have injured his toe on a “kitchen table” in the lead-up to last weekend’s win against Watford.

The Moroccan wasn’t expected to feature on Saturday evening, but his substitute appearance spurred Saints on to pick up a vital three points.

However, Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl said the part he played on Saturday has aggravated his injured toe.

“I must say it’s getting worse,” Hasenhuttl said ahead of the Norwich clash. “After the match, the reaction was not the best one, so for Wednesday it will be difficult, I think. Maybe from the bench, but not from the beginning.

“He will not train today [Tuesday] and there’s still pain. He showed in the last game how important he is for us, so we hope the injury gets better.”

Southampton’s only other injury concern is Stuart Armstrong, who is confirmed to miss the next few games.

Scotland international Armstrong picked up a hamstring injury in Saints’ 2-2 draw with Arsenal.
