Ryan Bertrand is the major injury doubt for Southampton as they welcome South Coast neighbours AFC Bournemouth this weekend in the Premier League.
Bertrand injured his ankle in Saints’ 1-1 draw away at Watford in the week.
Towering Danish centre-half Jannik Vestergaard is also a certainty to miss out against Bournemouth like he did against Newcastle United and Watford in the last week.
“Jannik [Vestergaard] is not [fit] that’s for sure but I think we have another few problems,” Hasenhuttl said in his pre-match press conference ahead of Bournemouth’s visit to St. Mary’s. [H/T Daily Echo]
“Ryan Bertrand has got a hit on his ankle and this is maybe also a question.”
Tuesday night’s match against Watford also saw Stuart Armstrong and record-breaker Shane Long pick up injuries.
Both Long and Armstrong were hauled off the pitch in the second half due to injury. While Hasenhuttl thinks Armstrong is likely to miss out against Bournemouth, he feels Long could return to fitness in time for the weekend.
“Stuart Armstrong has a little bit of a problem with his hamstring and Shane [Long] is fit I think,” Hasenhuttl explained.
“He trained today but he had a little bit of a problem in the end of the game against Watford.
“It’s good that he can play at the weekend.”
There’s also some good news in terms of Bertrand’s potential replacement Matt Targett.
Targett has also been injured of late, but he seems set to fit into the place left by Bertrand as he reunites himself with the treatment table.
“Matt Targett is back in team training and that is good for us because he is the substitute for him.”
