After battling to a 3-3 draw against Chelsea last week, Southampton host an in-form Blues side in Everton on Sunday in game six of the new Premier League season.
For Saints manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, it’s a mixed bag of selection news.
INJURY NEWS: Everton missing three key players through injury & suspension
Stuart Armstrong is in contention to play after a period of self-isolation and regaining fitness following his positive test for coronavirus while on international duty with Scotland.
However, Moussa Djenepo is still sidelined with his hamstring problem picked up against West Brom three weeks ago.
To make matters worse for Hasenhuttl’s options out wide, Theo Walcott is unavailable for selection as he cannot play against his parent club Everton, where he joined Southampton on loan from.
In terms of other new Saints signings, Ibrahima Diallo could make his first start for Southampton. However, there aren’t any fresh updates on Mohammed Salisu and when he will make his debut Saints appearance after signing from Real Valladolid in the summer.
This is what Hasenhuttl had to say about Salisu last week:
“He’s part of the team sessions so far. I think it doesn’t take long to see him on the pitch.
“I think one or two weeks, maybe, and then hopefully we will be seeing him.”
Elsewhere, back-up right-back Yan Valery picked up an injury for the Southampton Under-21s midweek.
