Southampton and Wolverhampton battled to a 1-1 stalemate in the Premier League at the Molineux Stadium on Monday night.

Theo Walcott looked set to send Southampton on their way when he sprung free to tap in Che Adams’ cross in the 58th minute, but he failed to double the advantage seven minutes later.

And that drop allowed Wolves to get back in the game through second-half substitute Pedro Neto, who drew the hosts level after only being on the pitch for five minutes.

Neto nearly nudged his side ahead, but Alex McCarthy made a smart foot save from a tight-angle to keep the scoreline level.

McCarthy made a few key saves early in the first-half, denying Nelson Semedo and Leander Dendoncker with a quick double save on six minutes.

The Southampton shot stopper then prevented Podence from finding a breakthrough shortly after the restart.

Adams picked out an unmarked Walcott crashing the back post for a simple tap in goal to give Saints a 1-0 lead.

Walcott, however, was unable to add to his tally after a brilliant crossing ball from the midfield freed the forward — but a rushed shot saw the ball roll wide of the target.

Neto then directed Raul Jimenez’s initial shot, which cannoned off the post, into the net 15 minutes from full-time for a deserved leveller after Wolves fought back after falling behind.

The midfielder had a chance to steal away all three points, but McCarthy again made a smart save to secure a vital point to keep them in fifth place in the league table.
