Southampton News: Saints manager Ralph Hasenhuttl self-isolating and will manage game against West Ham remotely

Southampton vs. West Ham team and injury news

With the football festivities well under way, Saints welcome a West Ham United side that is outperforming pre-season expectations under manager David Moyes.

Some big news broke just hours ahead of the evening kick-off that Saints head coach Ralph Hasenhuttl will not be on the touchline at St Mary’s.

Hasenhuttl is self-isolating after a member of his household tested positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus. The Austrian will be managing remotely, keeping in contact with his team and coaching staff via a video link.

In terms of injury news, Southampton fans will have welcomed the images of Danny Ings returning to training after Saints’ 0-0 draw against Fulham on Boxing Day.

However, it’s unlikely that Ings will starts against West Ham as he continues to recuperate from his hamstring injury.

Saints midfielder Oriol Romeu is available after serving his suspension for picking up five bookings in the Premier League. Though, Southampton’s Jannik Vestergaard - one the the team’s most impressive players this season - is out with a knee injury.

West Ham could field a totally different side to what we saw against Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday after Moyes admitted he got his team selection wrong.

There is some good news for the Hammers as well - former Saint Michail Antonio has returned to training after recovering from a hamstring injury and could feature.
