Southampton striker Danny Ings made a return to training yesterday for the first time since picking up a knee injury against Aston Villa in October.

The England international is a key component to the Southampton attack, scoring five goals in seven Premier League games so far this season.

Saints haven’t looked awful since he has been sidelined, though, picking up four points from three games against Newcastle United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Manchester United.

Having missed those games since his collision at Villa Park and now back in training, there is a chance he could return to action against Brighton & Hove Albion on Monday night.

However, Saints manager Ralph Hasenhuttl says he is unsure of Ings’ match fitness and if he will be rushed into playing Brighton at the Amex.

”We must have a look. Yesterday was the first time he was training with the team,” Hasenhuttl said in response to whether Ings will make an appearance on Monday night or not.

“He looks good. We must look how his body reacts to the training and then we can say more. But it looked good yesterday, yes.”
