INJURY NEWS: Southampton attacking duo could return against Brighton
INJURY UPDATE: A number of players look likely to miss Saints visit for Brighton
Brighton vs Southampton team and injury news
Southampton could go back to fifth in the Premier League if they can escape Brighton with victory tonight.
But while Saints are riding a high despite last week’s defeat to Manchester United, Graham Potter’s Brighton & Hove Albion will be buoyed by the last-minute draw they snatched against Liverpool last week.
Both sides have some significant injury news.
Saints attacking duo Danny Ings and Nathan Redmond are back in training and could play a part in tonight’s game with manager Ralph Hasenhuttl being tight-lipped about how likely that is.
The Austrian coach also mentioned that new signing Mohammed Salisu is finally nearing the kind of fitness levels to near making the matchday squad for the first time.
Brighton midfielder - and Southampton Academy product - Adam Lallana is a certainty to miss out on the game after he aggravated a groin injury against Liverpool.
Seagulls striker Neal Maupay - Brighton’s top goalscorer - is a fitness doubt but could feature.
Elsewhere at Brighton, Netherlands international Davy Propper and Argentine Alex Mac Allister are also expected to miss the game with injury.
Brighton vs. Southampton pre-match stats
Head-to-head
- Brighton are winless in the six Premier League meetings (D4, L2), conceding at least once in all of these games.
- Southampton are unbeaten in their past seven matches against the Seagulls in all competitions (W3, D4).

- Danny Welbeck has scored five league and cup goals against Southampton, the joint-highest figure of his career against a particular opponent.
- Solly March is set to become the fifth player to make 100 Premier League appearances for Brighton.
Southampton
- Saints have scored in 16 of their last 17 league games, including each of the past nine.

- Southampton have dropped 42 points from winning positions since Ralph Hasenhuttl’s appointment in December 2018, more than any other side during that period.
- Three of the six goals from direct free-kicks in the Premier League this season have been scored by James Ward-Prowse.
