Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp praised Southampton following their 4-0 win over the Saints at Anfield.
Though the scoreline suggests otherwise, the game was closely contested for a large period and the German manager had nothing but good things to say about Southampton and the work done by manager Ralph Hasenhuttl.
“First and foremost, I really have to say, wow, Southampton – what a team that is,” Klopp said following his side’s victory. [H/T Daily Echo]
“I am so long in football and never saw a turnaround like that. When I saw them playing at home against Chelsea months ago, I was really worried.
“Doing that kind of turnaround is just exceptional. The set-up they have is constantly causing you problems, if you do the wrong things – which we did in the first half in some moments.
“The strange thing of this game is that it’s not even too high [a scoreline], it’s just strange that Southampton could have won it as well.
“That just shows how difficult it was. Even more so, we are really pleased about the outcome.”
That win, of course, moves Liverpool closer to winning the Premier League which has eluded them side for so long.
Klopp’s elation at the win, however, is indicative of the positive work Hasenhuttl has achieved in reversing the fortunes of Southampton under some tough circumstances.
