A lot of the social media speculation was right. The sash is back.
This morning, Southampton’s media team sent out a press release announcing the new Saints home and away kits for the 2020/21 season with Under Armour.
As you can see, Saints shirts will feature the sash which last appeared in the 2010/11 season which marked the club’s 125th-year anniversary.
That season, Southampton earned promotion from League One to the Championship. Let’s hope this kit brings similar fortune.
The sash first appeared on a Saints shirt in 1885 - the year when the club formed.

Unlike in 2010/11, the sash is white while the majority of the shirt is red. The away kit is the inverse, looking a lot like the kit Southampton had a decade ago.

Saints fans can also play a retro-style arcade game to celebrate the kit launch. Head here to do so (mobile only).
The replica kit will be on sale through this link once live: https://www.southamptonfc.com/store/replica-kit/c-1/c-69
Here’s the official press release below:
“Southampton FC’s new home kit for 2020/21 sees the return of the club’s iconic sash design first featured back in 1885, where players would wear a physical sash over their shirt, placed over either shoulder.
“Paying homage to this, the new home kit will be predominantly red with a white sash sat over the right shoulder and feature black shorts and red socks, while the third kit will be white with a red sash over the left shoulder and be coupled with white shorts and socks.
“In goal, Saints shot stoppers will wear either an all-blue, all-pink or all-yellow kit: the latter two available to pre-order from 8th July. The away kit is due to be revealed in early August and will be available on pre-sale at the same time.”
