Tottenham Hotspur’s rather hopeful transfer approach for Southampton’s Danny Ings has been rejected according to The Guardian.

Though Spurs never submitted a bid to sign Ings, Saints are said to have rebuffed any offers from the North London club as they aim to extend the contract of their 22-goal man.

The report says that Southampton are in contract talks with several players to extend their stays on the South Coast, including Jack Stephens, Ryan Bertrand and Ings.

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho is on the hunt for a striker to add some competition to captain and goalscoring mainstay Harry Kane up front. Kane is Spurs’ only recognised striker.

Spurs, however, are reportedly close to signing some firepower to their squad with former Saint Gareth Bale set to return to the club from Real Madrid on loan.

Southampton have already sold a player to Tottenham in the summer. Former Southampton captain Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg left Hampshire for the capital in early August.
