News emerged yesterday that Spurs loan signing Gareth Bale has a knee injury which was picked up on his club medical after completing his transfer from Spanish giants Real Madrid.

However, Bale and fellow Madrid signing Sergio Reguilon did not meet Friday’s registration deadline in time anyway.

Southampton fans will be glad to hear the Wales dangerman - and former Saints Academy product - will not be up top to bolster a sluggish Tottenham forward line.

It’s expected that Bale won’t return to playing until October at the earliest.

Elsewhere, Spurs have a defender who is set to miss out through injury.

Tottenham product and England U20 international Japhet Tanganga is sidelined with a thigh injury.

Mourinho’s men were in Europa League action on Thursday night as they turned things round late to defeat Bulgarian opposition Lokomotiv Plovdiv 2-1.

Things got off to a poor start domestically for Spurs, though. Like Southampton, Tottenham lost their opening game to the Premier League season - a 1-0 defeat at home to Everton.
