It’s clear by now that Southampton are in the hunt for a - or multiple - central midfielder(s).

Saints are now being linked to signing Toulouse midfielder Ibrahim Sangare.

According to Sky Sports, Sangare would be available at a decent price due to Toulouse’s recent relegation from Ligue 1 and his contract with the club is set to expire in a year’s time.

The towering 22-year-old Ivory Coast international has five caps for his country and has made over 70 appearances for Toulouse.

Sangare is one of many midfielders currently being linked to a Southampton transfer after Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg left for Tottenham Hotspur, and duo Harrison Reed and Mario Lemina joined up with Fulham earlier in the summer.

In the last few days, Southampton have been linked to the signings of Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Everton’s Tom Davies and Leicester City’s Hamza Choudhury.

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl yesterday confirmed that the club will sign players to bolster his paper-thin squad.

I know that we will get players in,” Hasenhuttl said. “Now comes the moment where I think some good opportunities are coming up, also maybe for us.

“I think the players who were our number one choice, it was not so easy for us to get them. But I think there are some other alternatives where we are still keen when they are coming to us, be it on loan or permanent.

“Either way I think we know we need a few, one or two players minimum we must get, maybe three.”

When does the summer transfer window open and close?

The summer transfer window opened on 27 July and closes at 23:00 on 5 October.

A domestic-only window for trades between Premier League and EFL clubs will run from 5 October until 16 October at 17:00.
