Veerman has made 23 first team appearances for Heerenveen, scoring four goals from central midfield.
However, the 6ft 1ins midfielder limped off injured in his game for the Dutch side on the weekend.
Saints are still on the hunt for a man who plays in the middle of the park since losing former captain Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to Tottenham Hotspur and Saints due Harrison Reed and Mario Lemina to Fulham.

The summer transfer window opened on 27 July and closes at 23:00 on 5 October.
