Report: Southampton linked to transfer of Heerenveen midfielder Joey Veerman

Southampton were linked to Ivory Coast international Ibrahim Sangare, but lost out to Eredivisie side PSV Eindhoven.

In response, Saints are looking at another Dutch club for a midfielder according to the country’s football press.

Voetbal International say that Saints scouts were present for Heerenveen’s 1-0 win over VVV-Venlo in their season opener on Saturday.

The 21-year-old is said to have renewed his contract with the club earlier in the summer, but he could be tempted away with a move to the Premier League.

Veerman has made 23 first team appearances for Heerenveen, scoring four goals from central midfield.

However, the 6ft 1ins midfielder limped off injured in his game for the Dutch side on the weekend.

Saints are still on the hunt for a man who plays in the middle of the park since losing former captain Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to Tottenham Hotspur and Saints due Harrison Reed and Mario Lemina to Fulham.

Southampton have been linked to players such as Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Leicester City’s Hamza Choudhury and Tom Davies from Everton.

When does the summer transfer window open and close?

The summer transfer window opened on 27 July and closes at 23:00 on 5 October.

A domestic-only window for trades between Premier League and EFL clubs will run from 5 October until 16 October at 17:00.
